Apple Turnovers

(Or turnovers about fair play)

Here's a riddle: What's the quickest way to skin a peach?

Last year, about this time, we went out to the apple festival in a nearby small town. We wandered around, sampling apple wine, apple butter, and all varietals of the fruit. Amy decided to make some apple butter, so we took home about five pounds.

The next day, I came home from work to find a pink bandanna clad Amy on the couch pealing apple after apple for her project. I went to the kitchen to grab a peach for an after-work-snack, but I couldn't find one anywhere. I was sure we'd picked some up, but I couldn't figure out where they'd gone. Until later; Amy'd skinned them along with the apples! Lucky for us, they didn't end up in the butter!

Fast forward to a week ago, when we set out to make this month's bonus barefoot blogger recipe: Apple Turnovers. On arriving at the store and seeing the honeycrisps at $4.99/lb, and the peaches at $1.18/lb, we quickly adapted to peach turnovers. During assembly, the filling kept running out of the pocket, and so these turnovers became tarts.

And so, the quickest way to skin a peach, of course, is to tell a food monkey you want an apple! I really did have the best intentions though... and since I shelled out (no pun intended... ok, maybe just a little) for the puff pastry, I posit that these still count as apple turnovers.
